SKILL SUBJECTS - 2021-22

Dear Parents— Greetings from SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, Varanasi! Hope you are doing your best possible to protect yourselves and your families from the fury of Covid-19 pandemic! Please take care. We are sure that Corona will be defeated and we are back to normalcy soon. Through this letter, we would like to inform you about the decision of CBSE to introduce Skill subjects in Class 11 from this session-2021-22 onwards and we have chosen the following three Skill subjects out of a long list given by the CBSE (a student is supposed to opt for any one as the Sixth subject in Class 11)---- 1. Marketing 2. Web applications 3. Health care You know well that our country is churning out thousands of graduates every year but there is a staggering skill gap with around 93% Engineers and MBAs not employable. The right skill development from School can help students get jobs when they are graduated. Let me give you a brief idea about what the Skill subjects are and how they are beneficial for students. In Skill based learning, teachers focus on imparting education through planning and practice. To help the students retain the concepts of a subject, teachers plan, discuss ideas and provide constructive feedback so that the students can reflect on the skills gained in the classrooms. Students are motivated to think logically, analyze concepts and apply their insights. The whole idea is to develop the students into independent thinkers and prepare themselves for the challenges of future especially in getting a job or becoming an entrepreneur. Above all, choosing a Skill subject as the sixth subject of study in Senior Secondary classes will help the students in securing higher percentage in Board examinations and passing the examination gets easier as the Result is computed based on the Best five subjects. So, please help your wards in choosing a Skill subject well. A brief description of the benefits (career options available) of choosing a particular Skill subjects are attached with this letter.

We see this more as character building than mere social service. Child safeguarding remains a top priority and children are nurtured through a theme-based curriculum and experiential learning.

Our teachers and Principals play a pivotal role in the development of each child. Our alumni are our brand ambassadors, who leave a lasting footprint in whatever profession they choose to pursue. We are also thankful to the parents of our students for their very active support and faith in us.

I congratulate all the students, teachers and Principals of SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools for the remarkable academic results achieved in 2020 and for consistently raising the bar for ourselves year after year.
